Today the puppies turn two weeks old. It has taken several days of contemplation in order to come up with a way to discuss a delicate subject. Heidi had six puppies total. She is only left with two very healthy, fat puppies. Heidi was not unaware of the reduction of her litter and likely shared in our stress as much as we tried to hide it and stay positive.

A few days ago, LaRita decided Heidi's puppies could share some time with Babs' litter and moved them into the spare bedroom while Heidi was out. Heidi decided, on her return, she would feed her two and all of Babs' puppies as well. This has helped Heidi's mental health considerably and her two puppies are getting uber socialized. They don't spend all of their time in with their cousins, but they visit several times a day. Given the age difference, Babs' pups already have teeth and can walk. Heidi's puppies both have their eyes open as of yesterday.

The little one in the front is one of Heidi's puppies.

Despite a rough beginning, everybody is doing very well! Of the three puppies, we have one big girl, one little girl and one big boy.

Regrettably one of the boys left us today but the three we have are strong and healthy. We have always been extraordinarily lucky with our puppies and have lost very few over the years. It's always sad to lose one though, we did our best with the vet's help.

Happy 7th Birthday to Homer, the sire of this litter. His puppies were whelped on his birthday in another odd numbers conicidence. There are two boys and two girls. It wasn't an easy process for Heidi and she's relieved it's over with. We are off to the vet this afternoon (1/20) for a checkup and tails/dewclaws.

My Mom got this photo last night when the two girls were lounging. You can see Babs' belly has become sizable. Heidi is about ten days behind her in pregnancy. As I said to a visitor, "Babs has MORE than two, and well, Heidi probably has more than two too." Babs is more uncomfortable and starting to waddle. We are on the home stretch though, only 13 more days until her due date. Heidi has a little longer to wait...

I wanted to wait until we knew Heidi was pregnant before posting anything on the web site. Heidi is ten days behind Babs in her gestation. Babs is quite a bit larger than Heidi at this point, but Heidi is unmistakably pregnant. I can't really guess about how many puppies Heidi will have. She had 8 with her litter in 2008.
